Our mission is to inspire a passion for reading in elementary school students, especially those who have not been as privileged in their access to books.
Every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States. Students in the bottom 20% family income bracket are 5 times more likely to dropout of high school than students in the top 20% family income bracket. Children who aren't reading at grade level by the time they are in 3rd grade are 4 times more likely to dropout of high school.
61% of low-income families have no books at all in their homes for their children. Since such children have less access to books, it hurts their reading proficiency at an early age. It contributes to harming their overall education, ultimately leading to diminished earning capacity.
We can change this!
We provide free books for elementary schools in low income neighborhoods, allowing students to have ready access to books that they are passionate about. We work directly with schools to identify specific genres and sections that are lacking or need updates.
During COVID-19 lockdown, we directly reached out to students in East Palo Alto, California, by providing books to support their summer reading. Post-pandemic, we now distribute books to students by collaborating with target schools and working closely with school district officials.
